CW Research: India November month-on-month green petcoke imports fall slightly
According to CW Research analysis, India's imports of uncalcined petcoke slightly exceeded 0.6 million tons in November 2015 with cement companies representing about 55 percent of purchases.
ÔÇ£Domestic petcoke producers are giving huge discounts on bulk orders, which have absorbed some portion of the imported product destined for West Coast customers. Customers on the East Coast, however, still prefer imported petcoke to the domestic product due to logistical advantage," said Sushmita Rai, Sr. Associate Analyst, CW Group.
The monthly import volume represents a 9 percent reduction over October's imports and up 127 percent compared with the year-ago period. Indian uncalcined petcoke imports totaled 0.69 million tons in October 2015, while the country imported 0.28 million tons of uncalcined petcoke in November 2014.
In November, the largest exporter of fuel-grade petcoke to India was Saudi Arabia at 0.29 million tons, followed by the US at 0.27 million tons. Other exporters included China, Indonesia and Japan. Petcoke imports by cement companies comprised about 55 percent of the total petcoke volume imported in India in the month of November. In comparison, petcoke imports by cement industry comprised 56 percent in October.
Petcoke traders / producers and suppliers accounted for 25 percent (0.16 million tons) and steel companies for 17 percent (0.11 million tons) of the total imports respectively.
Petcoke imports at Kandla (0.20 million tons) and Visakhapatnam (0.13 million tons) ports together accounted for 52 percent of the total Indian petcoke imports in November. Goa, Krishnapatnam and Karaikal accounted for 14 percent, 12 percent and 8 percent respectively. The remaining 13 percent was imported at other ports including Paradip, Mangalore, Kolkata, Tuticorin and JNPT.
