Coking coal imports, which are crucial for steel production, grew by 5.4 percent to reach 54.46 million tons in fiscal year 2023 In March, non-coking coal imports reached 13.88 million tons, while coking coal imports amounted to 3.96 million tons. Despite being one of the top coal-producing countries globally, India still relies on imports to meet a portion of its coal demand due to high consumption levels. The rising demand for steam coal and favorable seaborne prices are expected to drive continued growth in the coming months.
