Cement shipments to Gaza halted

14 December, 2020

The decision comes from the Israeli prime-minister {reg}Cement shipments from Israel to Gaza were halted after an order given by the Israeli Prime-Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports Israel Hayom. Netanyahu justifies its decision with the new discovery of an attack tunnel coming from Gaza, belonging to Hamas. The Gaza Strip is in dire need of cement to reconstruct the 10,000 buildings that were destroyed in the 2014 war. Israel has allowed some cement shipments to enter Gaza, but the Israeli authorities now say that these were mainly used by Hamas to build military facilities. The prime-minister also stressed that he is determinate on avoiding the construction of a seaport in Gaza, and that may also be considered a reason to cut cement supplies to the region.{/reg}
