Global leaders collaborate on game-changing ammonia project
In a groundbreaking partnership, INPEX Corporation, Air Liquide Group, LSB Industries, and Vopak Moda Houston LLC have joined forces to pioneer a transformative low-carbon ammonia production project on the Houston Ship Channel.
The collaborative effort, following a successful feasibility study, will see the project's first phase target over 1.1 million tons per annum (MTPA) of low-carbon ammonia production by 2027, with prospects for expansion. Situated in the world's second-largest petrochemical corridor, the Houston Ship Channel offers a strategic location, harnessing existing infrastructure and Vopak Moda's expertise in bulk liquid product storage.
This initiative combines each partner's strengths to advance low-carbon ammonia production in the United States. Air Liquide and INPEX will lead low-carbon hydrogen production, with Air Liquide's technology set to capture at least 95 percent of direct CO2 emissions. LSB will spearhead low-carbon ammonia production, overseeing engineering, procurement, construction, and day-to-day operations of the facility. INPEX and LSB will handle low-carbon ammonia sales and finalize off-take agreements. Meanwhile, Vopak Moda will enhance its storage capacity to accommodate the project's output.
This alliance of energy giants signals a paradigm shift in low-carbon ammonia production, propelling us closer to a more sustainable world.
